Bathroom Modifications
One of the most difficult home mobility challenges is the bathroom. HMS can provide and perform any type of bathroom modification, either residential or commercial.
HMS can help by assessing the current bathroom and proposing a cost-effective plan to ensure your needs are met. A few ideas we have implemented with other customers include:
Walk-In Bathtub: Easier and safer to enter than a conventional bathtub, a walk-in bathtub requires the user to have enough use of his/her legs to step over a gap that is roughly 4 inches high and enough use of his/her arms to open/close a very light door.
Wheelchair Roll-In Showers: It is possible to build a bathroom and bathroom shower with a floor on level with the rest of your house. This allows you to ride a wheelchair (preferably a wheelchair designed to be submerged in water) directly into the shower and makes the shower can be of temporary use.
Accessible Sink: An accessible bathroom requires is a vanity sink with space under it for a wheelchair. For some disabilities, the sink height may need to be lowered or raised appropriately.
No-Slip Flooring: Disabled or elderly individuals are far more likely to slip on a bathroom's wet floor, and can suffer serious injuries. Flooring is another area to be considered when reviewing safety and bathroom modifications.
Grab Bars: ADA compliant grab bars should be installed in the bathtub, shower, and around the toilet.
HMS can provide assistance in all these areas and also cater to your unique needs.
Construction concerns are not a problem for HMS. A common problem is narrow doorways; HMS can widen the entrance to the bathroom, allowing for more convenient access.
